Valentine’s Day is around the corner and I thought it would be fun to make a Valentine’s Day Mini Heart Piñata as a party favor for our V-Day party.
Here is what you need:
- Empty Cereal Box or Gift Box
- 1-2 Sheet(s) of Tissue Paper (favorite color or Valentine’s Day theme)
- Double Sided Tape
- Regular Tape
Cut the cereal box/gift box open so you are left with 2 large sides and 2 spines (see figure 1).
Out of the large sides, cut 2 hearts as in figure 2. You may be able to use just one side depending on the size of your box. Any size will do, I used a large cookie cutter I found that was about the size of my hand.
Now you are ready to put together your Heart Piñata! Remember the 2 spines you cut from the box? Take one and align to your hearts using regular tape. See figure 3.
IMPORTANT: If you are using a cereal box, use the non printed side.
Start taping the side to form the heart. I did not cut the spine down. If you cut out a smaller heart, you can make it thinner but remember you will be filling it up with goodies. Leave a small section open, it will be covered up later with tissue to close the hole (see figure 3A).
Cut strips of tissue paper (see figure 4). You won’t use much but since tissue paper comes in a package, I cut several strips instead of cutting one piece of paper. I used the width of my ruler as a guide but if you want to measure it, I would recommend 1 to 1.5 inches. You shouldn’t need more than 10 strips for 1 mini piñata. Then cut the tissue paper in fringe form and set aside (see figure 5).
Now you are ready to apply the double sided tape. Apply one side at a time (see figure 6). Cut any excess and start applying the fringed tissue paper you cut in step 4 (see figure 7).
NOTE: You must apply from the bottom up. Cut any excess.
You are done! Now fill your mini heart piñata with goodies and close the hole with a piece of tissue paper.
I hope this Valentine’s Day idea inspires you as you get ready to celebrate with your little loved ones. Get Inspired!
