Celebrate your special occasion with an Art Deco Birthday! One of my New Year’s resolutions was to celebrate my loved ones and I’m doing so by helping them celebrate their BIRTHDAYS!
Check out how I am celebrating my cousin Mariela’s special day with a fun and easy Art Deco Birthday Kit.
Art Deco Theme Inspiration
Even though we may think we know everything about our families, we very often miss the little things they appreciate the most. This is where I started, the questionnaire!
- What is your favorite style?
- What are your favorite colors?
- What is your favorite cocktail?
- Tell me 5 things that you like (i.e. Red Wine, Lotions, Shoes)
Mariela’s response for favorite style was Art Deco and that pretty much sealed the deal.
Since Mariela doesn’t live in my same state, I created a simple Art Deco Birthday Kit I could mail to her.
The kit includes:
- Tablecloth or Runner
- Birthday Banner
- Cupcake Toppers
- Special Theme Detail
- Signature Cocktail
Fabric quarters or Fat Quarters as they are also called, are my new best friend! My original plan was to make a tablecloth but since I was mailing this out, I found the exact colors and patterns I had in mind in Fabric Quarters. I hemmed up the sides and used them as my base.
NOTE: For the mailed kit, I added a regular plastic black tablecloth as well for her dining room table and the fabric quarters can be used as a runner or just arranged on top as I did in the picture below.
I found a very cool DIY banner kit at Jo-Ann Fabrics in all gold and a few days later found the perfect banner in black and gold with the word “PARTY” written out in the Art Deco theme at Michaels. So, I ended up making and adding 2 banners to the Art Deco Birthday Kit.
Back in October, I discovered TlcEdibles on Etsy. This shop specializes in edible cupcake toppers and my request was for customized Art Deco designs. Tracy was very accommodating and we landed on some very cool Art Deco patterns. Instructions are provided on how to apply the toppers and I would recommend using fondant for a cleaner look.
Don’t you love vintage images? I found this great Art Deco Vogue cover via Clawkate and added a birthday message. Voila, a personalized detail for the occasion!
As you know prohibition didn’t stop anyone from having a good time, I found a great recipe created in the Roaring Twenties. Enjoy a Parisian twist on the classic Gin Martini inspired by Bar Le Forum in Paris.
Le Forum Cocktail
1 1/2 Gin
2 tsps Noilly Prat Vermouth
4-5 drops Grand Marnier
Stir ingredients in a large glass filled with ice and strain over frozen Martini Glass.
The kit has been mailed and hope you enjoy this as much as the birthday girl will. Happy Birthday Mariela!
